Nick Brandts arbete var definitivt en katalysator. Elfenben, och allt sådant material som horn, anses i Asien traditionellt ha olika medicinska effekter och ge olika skydd. Det är ren vidskeplighet, men det lever kvar hos de äldre, 80 plussare, i Kina, och i breda lager av befolkningen i främst Japan och Korea. Nick Brandt is a photographer who photographs exclusively in Africa, one of his goals being to record a visually poetic last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are gone at the hands of man. Born and raised in London, Brandt studied painting and then film at St. Martins School of Arts. Nick Brandt depicts the animals of East Africa with an intimacy and artistry unmatched by other photographers who choose wildlife as their subject. He creates these majestic sepia and blue-tone photos contrasting moments of quintessential stillness with bursts of dramatic action by engaging with these creatures on an exceptionally intimate level, without the customary use of a telephoto lens.

Nick Brandt is an English photographer who focuses his work around humanity’s destruction of the natural world. He spent nearly two decades photographing African wildlife and former wild areas decimated by human development, and now resides in the Southern Californian mountains.
